Did your fertility nurse, midwife, or doula go above and beyond? Of course she did! These women are absolute heroes.

Why not make a nice gift basket to say “thank you”? I’ll show you how, using items you can order online! Scroll to the bottom to see the finished basket.

OK, let’s get shopping!

Start with a medium-sized, multi-purpose basket.

Go with a simple design so the basket can be used for many different purposes later on. A neutral basket is much more versatile than one that’s covered in butterflies.

Whitmor Woven Strap Small Tote (Amazon)
This basket is available from Amazon in several different colors. I like this style because it’s sturdy and clean. It won’t flop over, like some of the canvas ones, or get little basket bits all over everything.

I bought a similar basket for my sample basket at a local craft store for under $10. I also added some plain white shredded paper to the bottom.

Then, add between 3 and 7 coordinating but not matching gifts to your basket.

Choosing items in the same color palette will help make the basket look cohesive but interesting — not random and not matchy-matchy. For this basket, I chose purple and white items to easily mix-and-match with the other gift baskets in this group.

I don’t know why, but gift baskets look better with an odd number of items. (That’s true of other kinds of arrangements too, like bouquets of flowers.)

Here are 5 ideas:

Mother Nature Mug (Society6)
A mug is a great thing to include in a gift basket because pretty much everyone drinks either coffee or tea. This design is perfect for women’s health professionals who may not want a giant uterus all over their stuff. (If you have ever Googled “gifts for midwives” you know what I’m talking about!)

Rooibos Tea Sampler (Amazon)
Why not add some tea to go with the mug? This pretty tin would fit right in! (Rooibos is a caffeine-free herbal tea made from the leaves of a bush that grows in South Africa.)

Another option: A gift card to an awesome local coffee shop.

“Thank You” Carry-All Pouch (Society6)
You could put this super useful little pouch in the basket as-is, or tuck an extra gift inside: pens, lip balm, candy, whatever! I added an extra-long phone charger to my sample basket.

Chesapeake Bay Peace + Tranquility Candle (Amazon)
This is a really nice candle that’s not super expensive.

Aveeno Stress Relief Moisturizing Body Lotion with Lavender and Oatmeal (Amazon)
Hospitals are famous for having dry air, so a nice lotion is a thoughtful addition to this thank-you basket.

Here’s what my basket looked like when it was done!

This basket includes 5 gifts, not including the phone charger tucked into the pouch. See how the color scheme pulls the whole thing together? (This basket uses the “Nevertheless She Persisted” pouch featured in my other gift baskets, but the items can mix-and-match well.)

Other Ideas for the Basket if You’re Feeling Fancy

You should have all the makings of an awesome gift basket already, but if you want to add something, you can’t go wrong with food! Add some nutritious grab-and-go snacks, like granola bars or packs of almonds, for those long shifts at the hospital. (Definitely check with the hospital before dropping off any homemade treats, especially during Covid times.)
